Tips to get started on your e-portfolio

Here are a few tips to get started with your e-portfolio

  • Make sure you have as much as possible from previous MDE assignments
  • Make lists of the following items that you will consider for the portfolio:
    • Accomplishments during the MDE, besides completing the courses successfully
    • Assignments that you in fact want to share
    • Reflections on specific coursesĀ  and reflections on specific assignments
    • Professional artifacts
    • Your resume
    • Your picture
    • Lists of articles that you want to keep as a reference for yourself as you move forward that could be linked to your e-portfolio
  • Think about the technology you want to use for your e-portfolio. Visit Barrett’s list of e-portfolio tools: http://electronicportfolios.org/categories.html, http://electronicportfolios.org/web20portfolios.html and http://electronicportfolios.org/blogs.html

    • You will need to also decide (as you choose your tool), where you want this to reside (what server).
    • If you wish to use UMUC’s server, you will need to use an account inside Nova (server). You will then have to develop a website, which could be with any html editing tool, and have it published to the server via ftp.
    • Remember that you can start working on reflections and pieces of your e-portfolio, without yet having a final place for the e-portfolio. The final place should be where everything will hang together.
